Spoiler: We wrote this blog post last night, and this morning Marvel dropped a clip that basically confirms the first part of our theory, at least sort of. The second part of the theory about who we think the villain actually is has not been spoiled by this morning's clip.
After three episodes of Wandavision, it's becoming more clear to us what's going on. They have made it seem as though Wanda is a prisoner inside some form of Truman Show run by an organization named Sword, which is a defacto version of Shield. I'm guessing this is a form of misdirection, and Wanda is the one in control of her environment (at least mostly). We believe that she's in some kind of psychological bubble, grieving Vision's death in Infinity War, and has basically taken a town hostage, in a manner of speaking. The Sword team we see at the end of episode 3 might be there to contain Wanda, and trying to make sure her telekinetic cocoon doesn't grow any larger.
I'm also comfortable saying that Vision isn't actually there. He died when last we saw him, and has yet to be confirmed revived. There are plenty of ways that they can bring him back from the dead and eventually that will happen, I just don't think it's happened yet. The version we're seeing is just a creation of Wanda's mind. She's living out some form of fantasy, that's also like post-traumatic stress disorder. If Vision is still alive, then the series is set prior to Infinity War, because the mind stone has since been destroyed. It can't be on Vision's head anymore, unless Wanda already plucked another Vision from the multi-verse.
Who is Sword? Marvel wants us to think that they are the villain here, some kind of Hydra linked prison guards who have trapped Wanda in this world. We think that for now, Sword is currently on the side of good, likely run by Nick Fury. Eventually they may become a villainous organization in this phase of the MCU, but for now, they are not the dark force that's pulling strings. While Wanda is exacting some measure of control over her environment, there is likely also another dark force at play that we have not fully seen. Someone like Mephisto, Marvel comics version of Satan.
Our theory is that we haven't actually seen the real villain, and it's someone who has magical powers and could be the antagonist for Dr. Strange in his upcoming movie. This unseen villain may also be the father of Wanda's new babies (in a manner of speaking). We're not suggesting that rape occurred on a Disney Plus show, unless getting someone pregnant with magic is considered sexual assault. We can litigate that later. I'm fascinated with the possibility of Wanda giving birth to demon spawn. There are many different ways to build compelling storylines with Wanda possibly having to fight against her own children.
Of all the characters on the show who could be a proxy for Mephisto, it would most likely be Agnes the nosy neighbor. She's the one who ratted out Monica Rambeau, who may have been there to help Wanda. Katheryn Hawn is also the highest profile actor on the cast list, so it would make sense if she turned out to be the principal villain.
It is also possible that the villain introduced in Wandavison may be someone who will be the principle antagonist of a future team-up movie. It seems like marvel is developing the concept of the multiverse as well as its magic wielding characters. It's not outside the realm of possibility that the end of the upcoming new phases of marvel movies and tv shows has a climatic battle between good wizards against evil sorcerers.
Imagine Wanda, Dr. Strange and possibly Loki teaming up against people like Mephisto, Mordo, Nightmare and maybe even Dr. Doom if he's introduced in the MCU's Fantastic 4 movie. It would be a very interesting movie to see as there would be the opportunity for some incredible and mind tripping action sequences. the possibilities are endless.
We are also Ebony Maw stans who would love to see his character return to the MCU.
