The Rock Should Replace Chris Evans As Captain America

Captain America needs a new contract after the next Avengers movie, and at this point it's looking like Chris Evans will not be returning to this role that he has helped grow into one of Marvel Studios most successful and critically acclaimed properties. It has not been officially confirmed by the studio whether he is returning or not, which suggests that contract negotiations are still taking place. It's possible that Evans saying he's ready to walk away from the role is just him trying to leverage a better deal, or he's being sincere and has lost his desire to play this iconic character.

If it's true that Evans is done, the next question is who shall replace him? Captain America Civil War pulled in over a billion dollars worldwide, so it's highly unlikely that they will put the franchise on ice. Early scuttlebutt has Bucky Barnes becoming the new captain America, but in my mind, there is only one choice if Evans moves on, and that's the Rock, Dwayne Johnson. Marvel has neither confirmed or denied that the Rock is being considered as Evans replacement, and did not respond to our inquiry.

There are several reasons why the Rock would make the best possible Captain America. The fact that he's jacked is a great place to start. There are a limited number of elite actors who can play this role due to the required muscle mass. Vin Diesel's biceps and legs are too small. Having a man like Johnson who is that naturally muscular to play Cap would allow Disney to drop the story that he was chemically enhanced in a reboot (which when you think about it, sends a bad message to youth). What's the point of giving a whole bunch of steroids to a smaller man when you've already got one big enough to meet the demands?

The Rock emotes a strong vibe of wholesome goodness, which is necessary to play Steve Rogers correctly. We recently ran a web poll on which hero fans would most like to see the Rock play. First place was Captain America, second place was Batman, third place was Wolverine. The poll was done immediately after a post about why the Rock should be the next Wolverine, and despite our enthusiastic endorsement of the Rock as Wolverine, the people still wanted Captain America. This is what the people want, and he is their champion.

Even if Marvel just gives him a one movie contract to give him a shot as Captain America, there is no doubt in my mind that he would hit a home run and bring new energy to the character. An actor like Tyrese Gibson certainly doesn't have the acting range necessary to pull this off. Captain America can't just run around saying "Ah Hell no!" all the time. He needs to be able to convey conviction in his beliefs.
