Creed 2 Spoiler Review

The Cinema Analytica team made the journey to the local theater to watch Creed 2 (aka Rocky 8) and it was entertaining. You could feel the absence or Ryan Coogler as this film was a notch below the original Creed, but with a better ending. We scored movie this 8 out of 10 with judges delivering a unanimous decision. If you liked Creed 1, you'll like Creed 2. If you liked Rocky 4, you'll love Creed 2.

Michael B Jordan hit another home run and we all hope that he doesn't let this franchise die. His performance is worthy of an Academy Award nomination that he will not get. He was not even nominated for a Golden Globe despite blowing away nearly every other actor on that list. Considering he was also robbed of a best supporting actor nomination for Black Panther just shows that the GG voters have bad taste in movies.

It will be criminal if Dolph Lundgren is denied a best supporting actor nomination at the Oscars, just like Sylvester Stallone was robbed for Creed 1. The fact that he played an aggressive overbearing father who pushed his son into combat sports, constantly driving him to win, then made the emotional decision to throw the towel in an incredibly powerful moment. There was an audible gasp from the nearly sold-out audience. None of us saw that moment coming, and it was like being punched in the stomach. One of our team members was so shocked he couldn't breathe.

If Jaden Smith thought it was amazing, it must be.

Among my complaints, having his wife do his entrance music was not as emotionally impactful as Tupac. His song Ballad of a Dead Soldier would have been a perfect fit for the walking to the ring montage, on multiple levels. I'm not sure if the studio decided to save some money by not paying for Tupac rights, or if they genuinely thought Bianca makes better music, because I think it sucks. The musical score as a whole was pretty weak.

There was a fantastic performance by the actress who played his daughter, who was by far superior to the baby acting in Rocky 2. The crying, the look on her face when Adonis starts hitting the punching bag, that was perfect. You won't see better baby acting in a motion picture. Bridgette Nielsen on the other hand has not aged well. It was a powerful moment when she got up and walked out of the fight, but otherwise her whole appearance was a fail.

Despite some room for improvement, the whole experience was entertaining. It was very satisfying as a huge Rocky 4 fan to get a conclusion to that story. The boxer who played Drago's son did a good job. He lacked the magnetism of Pretty Ricky, but still gets a B+ for that performance. The fight scenes were once again very well choreographed, though MBJ did over-act a bit on the broken ribs.

It would have been nice to get a brief Mr T cameo to at least tease the next movie. I don't think they have 100% committed to making a trilogy, but fans have been clamoring for more. Please MBJ, do not throw in the towel on Creed 3 and the return of Clubber Lang with his prize fighting son. He shows great chemistry with Tessa Thompson. From the interviews I've heard, MJB sounds very enthusiastic about making more of these movies, which is music to our ears. Sly says he's done playing Rocky, but that's not the first time he's said that and reneged
